Our Saskatchewan Economy

From the data that the Government of Saskatchewan collected, we can see that 94% of products produced in Saskatchewan have the resources needed, in the province.

Our province is provided with various industries such as grains, oil, uranium, livestock, wood and precious stones. The Saskatchewan Provincial Outlook, said that we will be able to launch ourselves outside of recession, meanwhile our provincial economy will be weak since we are only expected to increase 0.2% in real GDP growth, the number provided is based on the research done by The Conference Board of Canada. The province’s mining sector continues to suffer from lower oil, uranium, and potash prices, but the job market has been shedding jobs.

Our Population Growth

Our province has a population of around 1.2 million people, our province’s annual population growth rate was the fourth largest of all provinces and territories. Last year Saskatchewan reproduced 15,743 children, but there was also 9,846 deaths, that means that there was an increase of 5,897 people.

Immigration also helped our population grow, it was stated that 11,256 people immigrated to Saskatchewan from around the world. Saskatchewan also got 19,540 from other provinces, but lost 23,184 residents. The numbers are growing, but that also affects our community in a bad way, an estimation of 5,000 jobs will be lost. As a whole, that means the population grew by 13,509 as of January 1, 2016. This shows a provincial growth rate of 1.26%, 0.06 percent greater than what was reported in January 2015.
